CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIPS

In a growing, ever more globally integrated economy, proven competence in the understanding and management of international business transactions in mining and its interaction with the environment, communities and local economies is a key requirement. As the scenario for mineral development becomes increasingly complex, there is a pressing need for professional skills in designing and implementing sustainable governance frameworks for the sector.

The Centre for Energy, Petroleum, Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) offers an LLM in Mineral Law and Policy, which provides the students with the required interdisciplinary knowledge and skills to deal with the current legal, policy and economic issues and challenges in mineral resources investment and development. Its interdisciplinary nature and perspectives in international and comparative law and the success of its emphasis on a theoretical and practical approach to learning make it one of the premier organisations of its kind worldwide.

Rio Tinto plc, together with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) at the University of Dundee (United Kingdom), as part of the activities of the partnership between Rio Tinto and the CEPMLP are offering up to a maximum of 10 fully funded postgraduate scholarships for the academic year 2008/2009 leading to the degree:

Master of Laws (LLM) in Mineral Law and Policy

The award will offer the successful candidate:

  1. Payment of academic tuition fees

  2. 12 monthly stipends for living expenses for a single student

  3. An arrival allowance and thesis/assignment allowance
