A single student living for 18 months in Dundee is advised to budget for at least £9,800 per annum to cover the following:

Accommodation: Self-catering University accommodation, en-suite with IT connection, heating included @ £100 per week x 52 weeks = £5,200.00
Food/Household Goods: £2,400.00
Academic materials, printing, copying, stationery: £600.00
Dissertation printing & binding: £130.00
Clothing, Entertainment, Transport: £840.00
Incidentals: £600.00
Graduation Fee: £30.00

Funding

Unfortunately we have no internal funding opportunities for any of our MBA programmes. Candidates are advised to contact their local British Council Offices for possible funding.

Admissions Criteria

Applicants should have:

A good 4-year degree, equivalent to a UK honours degree, preferably at upper 2nd class level or above. Candidates holding the equivalent of a good 2nd class lower degree may also apply. Degree certificates and academic transcripts must be provided.
Preferred degree disciplines are:

Law
Economics
Geology
Business
Petroleum or Mining Engineering
Finance

A minimum of two years work experience.
The minimum English Language Proficiency requirements are:

IELTS 6.5, or
TOEFL 603 on the paper-based test or 100 on the internet-based test

Deferred Entry Policy

Due to the very high number of applications received annually the CEPMLP is unable to defer admission in most cases.

Candidates who are unable to accept a place which has been offered to them should advise the University’s Admissions & Student Recruitment Office and the CEPMLP as soon as possible. In exceptional circumstances, the CEPMLP will arrange for deferred entry, but priority will be given to genuine cases where, for example, the candidate has secured funding from a source such as the British Council.

Candidates who neglect to reply to their offer letters or who fail to show up without informing the University in advance may not be eligible for deferred admission.

Pre-Arrival Information

We understand that it can be rather confusing for an overseas applicant to appreciate the respective roles of the various departments involved in the admissions process.

This section aims to clarify for you the entire admissions procedure and who is responsible for what activity:

Admissions & Student Recruitment Office/CEPMLP

All prospective candidates are required to submit their applications directly to the University’s Admissions and Student Recruitment Office. Applications which arrive at CEPMLP will be passed to the Admissions Office for them to log receipt on the central University Student Records Management System (SITS). Once the application has been logged, it will be sent back to CEPMLP for a decision.
CEPMLP: The Director of the Centre, in consultation with the relevant course leaders, is responsible for making all decisions on admission. His decision is communicated to the Admissions & Student Recruitment Office which sends out the formal letter in reply to the student’s application.
The decision can be either:

To offer unconditional admission
To offer conditional admission (conditions will be specified)
To advise the candidate that his or her application has been unsuccessful (reasons will be given)

Candidates who receive either an Unconditional or a Conditional offer of admission will be invited to respond to the Admissions Office by completing and returning a Student Decision Form and a Financial Guarantee Form.
Candidates who accept the offer of admission and who provide the Admissions Office with a satisfactory financial guarantee, will be sent a Certificate of Acceptance by the Admissions Office. This document is intended to help candidates to obtain their Visas. Information and an application form for University accommodation will also be provided by the Admissions Office, as will information on Payment Methods for tuition fees.

Hours of Study

Candidates requiring a Visa to study in the UK are often asked for detailed information on the number of hours of study their programme will entail.

Here is the relevant information for full-time MBA students:

The 3-Week Induction Programme is full-time, from 9am-5pm.

Thereafter, a single module of 20 credits is designed to be completed by a student with a high standard of English, putting in about 200 hours of work. For most modules which are assessed by research paper plus an examination, the student might expect to allocate his or her time as follows:

Attendance at classes: 25 hours
Essential reading & preparation for classes: 70 hours
Preparation for examination: 15 hours
Preparation of research papers: 90 hours

MBA students are encouraged to take the Integrative Strategy Module called “Business Strategy in the Resources Industries” which consists of the 20-credit module, ‘Strategic Planning’ plus a 2-part practical course, ‘Strategic Applications in the Resources Industries’. Part 1 is a one-week course in June/July and Part 2 runs in early September.

In summary, if the Induction Programme takes up 3-weeks and attendance at Part 1 of ‘Strategic Applications in the Resources’ takes 1 week, that leaves 17 months in which to complete the 5 management modules, 5 specialist modules plus the Strategic Planning Module, as part of the Integrative Strategy Module. This will require the student to do in excess of 140 hours work per month, which is effectively full-time study.

The MBA programme is designed for industry professionals from any discipline who wish to gain a basic grounding in international management practises and specialist knowledge in the fields of petroleum, energy, mining, water or international business transactions. It is suitable for those aspiring to be asset managers or project managers within these industries.
