David Lane began his career in industry, working for Ford Motor, Esso Petroleum, Imperial Group and Laser Associates. He then joined the Civil Service, working as an Economic Advisor at the Office of Fair Trading and the Department of Trade and Industry. From there David moved into education, lecturing in Accountancy and Finance at Liverpool John Moores University, the University of Wales, Bangor, the University of Portsmouth and the University of Abertay Dundee.

David now teaches part-time at the School of Accounting and Finance, University of Dundee and at CEPMLP, where he is an honorary lecturer.
