Hop is a senior associate in the Hanoi office of Allens Arthur Robinson, a leading regional law firm in South Asia. He advises on foreign investment projects and commercial matters with particular emphasis on project financing, EPC contracts, large-scale infrastructure, power and petroleum projects, contracts with governments and resolution of commercial disputes, especially through arbitration.

Hop practises mainly in Vietnam where he has considerable experience and expertise in representing foreign investors in negotiating internationally enforceable agreements with Vietnamese partners and the Vietnamese Government. He has strong working relationships with Vietnamese ministries and Vietnamese businesses. His main projects include the US$309 million project financing of Phu My 3 power plant, the US$1 billion Nam Con Son gas project and the US$750 million Dung Quat oil refinery. In addition, Hop has also advised on a number of international transactions outside Vietnam. For example, he advised British Petroleum and its Tangguh partners in the US$1.4 billion LNG sales contract to a Korean buyer. He also represented British Petroleum in the negotiations for a US$600 million investment in a power project in South Korea.

Hop is also a highly qualified academic and has taught in law schools in Vietnam, Singapore and Australia. He holds law degrees from both Vietnam and Australia and has recently completed his doctoral thesis at the University of Oxford in the area of international investment law. Hop was admitted to legal practice in Victoria, Australia in 2001. He is a fellow of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators and has been a Reserve Arbitrator at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre since May 2008.
